WELCOME

Welcome to the STATUS tool. This Tool gives local governments from across Europe the opportunity to self-assess their own progress with sustainable development, through inputting their own target values against a package of local sustainability indicators. These indicators have been selected from a number of European and national data sources, and have been specifically adapted to be relevant at the local level. The indicators are also designed to be usable by local authorities at different stages of sustainability implementation. For each indicator presented in the Tool, there is a set unit of measurement, and an indicative target. Every local authority can set its own target values related specifically to its local context and can enter relevant baseline data against these. In order to use the Tool you will only have to input a minimum of one target.

How to get started?

The tool is supported by detailed GUIDANCE on Selecting and Setting targets (this is an electronic downloadable document). Before you get started you can look at the THEMES AND INDICATORS page to read through all the 10 themes and indicators within these.

How do I register to use the Tool?

In order to register you should fill out the registration form under REGISTRATION. The registered person should be either a local government officer or local politician, who has the authority to confirm that the target values entered by a local authority are approved by the City Council (ie formally agreed by the Council). The registered person will receive a username and a password in order to be able to access the Tool. The password can be used by as many members of the local authority as the registered person thinks is required. All persons who has access to the password can change the data on the Tool. However, we stress that the registered person should be the main person in charge of the data inputted on the Tool.

What do I receive once I have submitted targets?

When you have inputted and submitted your targets you can click on the TARGET REPORT link above. A graphical report showing which targets you have inputted will come up. The Tool will also show a DATABASE with the names, by country, and by population size, of all participating local authorities and a list of the indicators for which they have set targets. To see the actual target values that each local authority has inputted you have to be registerd to use the Tool. This database may be helpful to your local authority in setting targets for sustainable development by providing valuable information on target setting by other Local Authorities in Europe.
